Restore Tulsa
It's always rewarding when I can offer my talents to the people and causes that
spread hope to those in need. Restore Tulsa is an organization endeavoring to do
just that. Their mission statement is:
"To 'seek the welfare of the city (Tulsa) by restoring everyday relationships
across racial, economic, and cultural divides as a response to our restored relationship
with God through Christ."
One of the people in our church who works with Restore Tulsa asked if I would help
with a brochure to raise awareness for the group. There was almost no budget and
very few resources to draw from. I consulted with some of the folks in the group
about how the piece would be used. We discussed the need and I developed a theme.
I started by designing a logo that incorporated a graphic of a green plant sprouting
up from the words, "restore tulsa". I felt that the green sprout would convey the
notion of restoration and new life well. I designed a simple letter fold brochure
with a scripture verse on the front. The verse speaks of restoration and the benefits
of helping those in need.
The inside of the brochure reveals a photo of a little girl, (a daughter of on of
the volunteers), working in a community garden in a neighborhood in north Tulsa.
The photo is a brown and black duotone with the exception of the plant she has just
put in the ground. The plant is vivid green and is the only real color on the page
and provides a nice tie with the logo.
The brochure communicated the need for involvement and helped educate others about
the work of Restore Tulsa. I was blessed to have some part in a very worthwhile
endeavor. My hope is that others will be encouraged to participate in this work
of "restoration".
Whether it's business or non-profit, if the message is important, I can assist with
your next communication project.
