You never know where inspiration will "pop up".
TD Williamson, an international manufacturer of Pipeline maintenance equipment,
asked me to help promote a new product called a PIG SIG V. Yep, I had the same question!
What's a PIG SIG? Turns out that pipeline companies run devises through their lines
called pigs that provide data and maintenance of the line. These Pigs run for miles
through pipelines and field personnel need a way to see when a pig passes their
location. That's what the PIG SIG does. As a pig passes the location of the PIG
SIG, a metal flag pops up to indicate it's passing. Hence the name, PIG SIG... as
in signal,,, get it?
So how do you design a mailer that would promote this new product to potential customers?
Well with a pop-up of course! I was already working with TDW to incorporate a new
image into their print literature so I took the opportunity to reflect the new look
in this piece. The cover utilized the curves and color of the new look and featured
a closed PIG SIG V with a teaser headline. Upon opening, a folded TDW flag "pops
up" from inside the brochure, much like the actual product. The inside goes on to
explain the features and benefits of the new product.
The piece was designed with special folding, gluing and die cuts that made it all
work. A complicated piece to engineer but one that had exactly the impact the client
wanted.
Let me know next time you need a special touch to promote your company or
product. Who knows what may "pop up".
